Who can come?
Artists come to the Stone Oven House association's residency by application, volunteers by arrangement with the association. Guests stay in the Stone Oven Stay rooms. The association's events are open to everyone.
When is the best time to come?
In winter, for the scent of mulled wine, a crackling fire and a valley almost to yourself. In spring, when clouds drift through the gorge, streams run down the slopes and there's young nettle soup for lunch. In summer, for fireflies, waterfalls, shooting stars and a house full of interesting people. In autumn, when chestnuts are gathered, figs and kiwis ripen and it's time to chop firewood.
Summer brings the most events and guests, so it's best to arrange your visit in advance. Late spring and early autumn are quieter.
Is there a detailed guide?

How do I apply for the residency?

Can I come as a volunteer?
Yes. See the Volunteers page for details, then write to association@stoneovenhouse.com telling us who you are, when you'd like to come and how you can help.
How do I book a room, and how much does it cost?
Rates, availability and booking are on https://stay.stoneovenhouse.com. Booking directly is usually cheaper than through booking platforms. Questions: stay@stoneovenhouse.com.
What are the check-in and check-out times?
Check-in is from 3 pm to 10 pm. We recommend arriving before 7 pm, so we have time to show you around before dinner. Late check-in is possible by arrangement.
Please vacate your room by 11 am, but there's no need to rush off: leave your luggage and spend the day in the garden or the village.
Can I join you for lunch or dinner?
Shared lunches and dinners are part of the life of the Stone Oven House association, not a hotel service. To join, simply become a member: membership is €25 a year. For a day of shared meals we suggest a voluntary contribution of €25–35 towards the shopping. Please tell us about dietary needs and allergies in advance.
Guests make their own breakfast in the shared kitchen.
Can I bring children or pets?
Children are very welcome: we have a cot, a high chair, a sandbox, a slide and swings. Pets are welcome by prior arrangement. Please note that semi-feral cats live on the property.
What should I bring?
Bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are provided. From October to May, bring warm clothes: the stone house and the mountains can be chilly. Bring good shoes for walking — trails start right at the door. And bring some cash: cards aren't accepted everywhere in the village and at the markets, and the nearest cash machines are in Luserna San Giovanni.
Can I smoke?
Outdoors only, away from non-smokers.

Can I hold a concert, workshop or retreat with you?
Yes. Send proposals for the association's programme to association@stoneovenhouse.com. To rent the whole house for a retreat, workshop or celebration, write to stay@stoneovenhouse.com.
How do I get here?
Address: Via Maestra 4, 10060 Rorà (TO), Italy. Some navigation apps send you further uphill into the village, so please follow the directions we send before your arrival.
By plane: the nearest airport is Turin Caselle, about an hour away by car. Milan Malpensa is about two and a half hours by car, with a direct bus to Turin.
By train and bus: from Turin Porta Susa, the SFM2 train takes about 50 minutes to Pinerolo. From there, the Arriva 901 bus goes to Luserna San Giovanni. For the last 8 km to Rorà there is almost no public transport — only a school bus during term time and a Friday bus on market day. Taxis here are booked by phone and in advance. Write to us and we'll help you with the last stretch. Hitchhiking also works well on this road: the locals know the house.
By car: parking is free, with room for about 12 vehicles on the property. The road is cleared in winter, but snow chains are worth having.
