Blue Reed Duo

The Blue Reed Duo is a musical project founded by Massimiliano Felice and Matteo Giuliani. The duo is known for its blend of various musical styles, such as jazz, folk, reggae, and Latin-American rhythms, with a strong connection to the balfolk tradition, typically associated with dance music. They use a mix of acoustic instruments—Massimiliano on the diatonic accordion and Matteo on midi guitar—combined with live electronics and effects, creating a unique fusion of traditional and modern sounds.

Their performances are described as a journey through various musical genres, ranging from French musette waltzes to Irish jigs, spiced with jazz improvisations and even hints of reggae. This wide range of styles allows them to offer both moments of delicate melody and bursts of energetic rhythm, which engage listeners and dancers alike. Their music aims to innovate while remaining rooted in folk traditions, making it accessible to a broad audience.

Since their inception in 2010, the duo has performed across Europe at festivals such as Venezia Balla (Italy), Tradicionarius (Spain), and Balfolk Ratisbonne (Germany). Their two self-produced albums, Vol. 1 (2013) and Vol. 2 (2016), showcase their evolution as a duo that continually explores the intersections of tradition and innovation in music.
