Book presentation: Vertical Migrations. Andrea Membretti in conversation with Diego Mometti

Book Presentation: Vertical Migrations (Donzelli Editore, 2024)
with the participation of Andrea Membretti, one of the three authors alongside Filippo Barbera and Gianni Tartari.

Andrea Membretti will be in conversation with Diego Mometti, social artist and curator of the international festival Alpes Andes, dedicated to environmental issues and the defense of the rights of land, men, and women.

The presentation will also feature a sound installation curated by Ghost Frequencies, aka Luigino Cominetti.

This book explores a growing phenomenon: the choice to leave cities behind to live in rural and mountain areas, becoming “new mountaineers” in search of a better quality of life. Supported by remote work, more and more people seek refuge from the climate and social crisis. Through an interdisciplinary lens — sociology, geography, demography, and climatology — the book analyzes the benefits and risks of this “vertical migration”, addressing key issues for the sustainable development of highlands and local communities.

Andrea Membretti, PhD in Sociology, is one of the founders of Riabitare l’Italia and teaches Sociology of Territory at the University of Pavia. His research and project work focus on human mobility in metropolitan-mountain contexts.
