KASKAD. Project as Method

On August 26, 2023, the final exhibition of young creatives from the Kaskad School, curated by artist Katya Kabalina, took place. This event was part of the “KASKAD. Project as Method” initiative, an interdisciplinary platform aimed at fostering cultural exchange through collaborative artistic projects. The exhibition was the result of a year-long educational process that connected young creatives with Kabalina, offering a space for participants, many of whom had been displaced due to the Russia-Ukraine war, to develop and present their artistic responses.

This was Kaskad’s first online course, specifically designed for individuals affected by the war, who had to leave Russia and now live in various countries including Georgia and Northern Ireland. The exhibition served as the culmination of their remote collaboration, showcasing the diverse perspectives and experiences of the young artists involved.

In addition to the exhibition, visitors were also able to explore the studios of two resident artists at Casa col Forno: photographer and filmmaker Elena Horgan, and visual artist Shamil Shaaev, a participant of the Artist at Risk program, which supports artists whose lives and freedoms are under threat. The event offered a moment of reflection on the intersection of contemporary art, displacement, and resilience, highlighting the power of creative expression in times of crisis.
