Ciao Frabosana — Ida-Simone

Ciao Frabosana is a project by artist and designer Ida-Simone, developed during a residency at Stone Oven House.

Working across fashion, textiles, ceramics, and found objects, Ida-Simone explores the potential of wool from the local Frabosana sheep breed. The project reflects on the disconnect between different production systems in sheep farming — meat, dairy, and textiles — where lack of integration often leads to waste or underuse. In this case, the focus is on the overlooked value of wool.

The wool is generously provided by the local shepherd of Rorà, Massimo Ribotta. Ida-Simone uses it in multiple forms: felt, fiber, and structural material. Together with local ceramicist Emilio Romano (@e.m.i.l.i.o.r.o.m.a.n.o), she develops an experimental process combining wool and stoneware clay, including the construction of a temporary kiln used to fire the pieces. The clay sculptures are made of dry stoneware; wool structures and claddings are tested to explore potential connections between materials, especially using wool not suitable for felting or weaving.

The project presents an open-ended research process. The experiments aim to understand how wool and clay interact — both inside the kiln and over time — exploring durability, transformation, and the creative use of underappreciated materials.
