Tobees — soundscapes for biodiversity is a duo formed by violinist and beekeeper Marna Fumarola and sound designer Azzurra Fragale. Together, they create immersive sonic landscapes by transforming the environment of an apiary into a space for deep and poetic listening.

At the heart of the project is an open-air bio-electronic concert, where the audience — equipped with wireless headphones — listens safely to the real sounds of bees, captured through directional, binaural, and contact microphones, and blended with the sounds of violin and synthesizers. The result is an enveloping sound experience that draws the listener into the microcosm of the hive.

The performance is structured as a gradual immersion: first, the natural acoustic landscape, then the buzzing of the hive, followed by the entrance of violin and electronics. The concert invites listeners to move beyond the ancestral fear of bees, recognizing them as vital allies in preserving biodiversity.

Tobees is not only music — it is a form of acoustic ecology. The project aims to raise awareness about the crucial role of bees in maintaining ecological balance and promotes mindful listening as a tool for reconnecting with nature.

Each concert is preceded by site-specific research and includes an introduction by a local beekeeper, moments of conversation with the artists, and honey tasting.
