ABC — 2022. Andrey Bilzho

The project was presented to the public on July 8, 2023, at the Stone Oven House residency.

Andrey Bilzho’s cycle “ABC — 2022” became a striking reaction to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and the subsequent information war. In his anti-war and anti-tyranny epic, Bilzho masterfully uses recognizable images from the Russian-language media space and stereotypes of Russian propaganda, which he exposes with his characteristic irony.

Each letter of this “alphabet” is framed with symbols and visual codes familiar to anyone who has encountered Russian political and media reality. Through these images, Bilzho delivers a satirical reflection on events and phenomena that have become part of everyday life in Russia — aggressive rhetoric, manipulation of public consciousness, and the dissemination of propaganda myths.

The project not only reflects the artist’s personal perception of the ongoing events but also becomes a powerful political statement against violence, dictatorship, and injustice. “ABC — 2022” is a frank artistic commentary aimed at uncovering false narratives and subversive ideas spread through propaganda channels during wartime.
