Vignettes — Marc Standing

Marc Standing, born in Zimbabwe in 1976 and currently based in London, presents Vignettes, an evocative series that navigates the intersections of memory, identity, and cultural layering. His intricate, multi-layered compositions weave together personal and collective narratives, challenging the perception of space and time.

Working with mixed media, Standing blends painting, collage, and installation, constructing worlds where African heritage, Western influences, and global belonging converge. His imagery oscillates between the figurative and the abstract, the intimate and the political, creating a visual language that resonates with themes of displacement and transformation.

This exhibition is supported by Art Labor (Shanghai), an internationally recognized contemporary art gallery known for its commitment to experimental practices since its founding in 2006. During the opening, Marc Standing will be introduced by Martin Kemble, founder of Art Labor, who will provide insights into his artistic journey and conceptual approach.

Vignettes invites viewers to immerse themselves in a realm where personal history and collective mythology dissolve into one another, offering a layered vision of identity in constant flux.
